The Administrative Unit is responsible for developing the administration and organisation of the Ministry as well as for several tasks and services that support the administration of the Ministry. The Unit is also responsible for the wage agreements of the Ministry, personnel development, other personnel administration, and general administration.

The Administrative Unit presents applications for pardon to the President of the Republic and is in charge of matters regarding the right to marry. Its duties also include the co-ordination of Sámi matters, the maintenance of the State legislative data bank Finlex, and the publication of the Statutes of Finland.
