| The Investigation Commission that investigated the school shootings in Kauhajoki recommends that firearms of a certain type be prohibited and conditions for obtaining a firearms permit be made stricter. The Commission suggests also some other measures, the purpose of which is to improve safety, health care and interaction in educational institutions. The Investigation Commission handed over its report to Minister of Justice Tuija Brax. |

| The Cabinet discussed the potential further development of electronic voting in its cabinet evening session on 13 January. It decided that the development of electronic voting at polling stations will not be continued for the meantime, but instead the current election system will be maintained. At the same time, close attention will be paid to the development of electronic voting in international arenas. |

| A joint Nordic project, led by the National Council for Crime Prevention in Finland, gathered a broad range of data in order to reduce violence in the Nordic countries. The main goal with the project, carried out in 2006 – 2009, was to strengthen cooperation and knowledge based crime prevention work in the Nordic countries. |
Report of the investigations of the school shootings in Jokela has been published in English

| The report of the Investigation Commission, assigned by the Council of State to investigate the school shootings in Jokela, has now been published in English. In the report the Investigation Commission presents 13 recommendations aiming to reduce the probability of school shootings and lessen the harm done by them. Several of the recommendations involve prevention of marginalization through, among other things, developing the student health care and mental health services and also the prevention of school bullying. |
